A GREAT LIGHT WEIGHT OPTION FOR HIKING
I used the Kathmandu XT Bivy 1 Person Bag on a 28 day hike of the Lycian Way in Turkey April/May 2018.
Pros:
Found it very easy to erect whether just dropping it on the ground or pegging it out fully.
Loved the weight 600 gms + 7 pegs.
I used my hiking pole, a rock or pack most of the time if there wasn’t anything else to tie the duel guy lines too. Did have to use extra lines to loft the bag out a bit more from time to time.
It retained heat well, sometimes too well so ended up sleeping just in a sleeping sheet lying on top of the sleeping bag.
The insect mesh was excellent. Most nights on the Lycian Way you would be plagued with mosquito’s. How-we-hiked-the-Lycian-Way
The Bivy can collect a bit of condensation inside the bag but is manageable.
Definitely only water-resistant, as the one and only time it did rain, I got quite wet. So a major downside. Would recommend using the bivy bag with a light weight shelter.
I don’t like the colour as you stick out like a sore thumb if you are wild camping. Definitely a green or even camouflage would be preferable. https://www.kathmandu.com.au/camp-and-hike/tents-and-shelters/xt-bivy-1-person-bag.html
Overall I was satisfied with how it performed during the hike.
Note: I don’t receive any payment for reviewing this gear. It is only my opinion after extensive use.
